Thrust SSC break the Sound barrier in ‘Black Rock Desert’, Nevada, US on Oct 15 1997 by achieving the top speed of 1,228km/hr. This car is powered by two Rolls-Royce Spey Turbofan Engines which were used in British version of the F-4 Phantom II jet fighter.
It burned around 18 liters per second and consumed fuel about 55 L/km during its maximum velocity feeding those massive twin jet engines.
It is 16.5 meters long and 3.7 meters wide and has total weight of 10 tons. With a total thrust of 223 kN which is almost 110000 break horse power (HP) producing 50,000 pounds per square foot, Thrust SSC became the fastest car in the World and the car to break sound barrier.
